It's ridiculous how sweet onions and cabbage can become by just sauteing it in the pan for some time. This dish is the sort of comfort food i know from my family. It's also amazing that kids love it because it's sweet, and we love that they love it, because it's healthy. Other than being delicious and healthy, it's super easy to make with ingredients we all have in our fridge all throughout the year.
- 1 medium green cabbage
- 3 medium onions
- 500g pasta
- olive oil
- 2 tbsp butter
How to do it:
Cut onions in stripes and saute it with some olive oil. When I want to make this process a bit quicker, I add salt and while sauteing it, I'm adding water. Approximately 1-2 tbsp water, then stir and let cook. Repeat a few times.
While sauteing the onions you can cut the cabbage, also in some sort of stripes. You can also cut it in little squares, but I prefer stripes because it's easier for the cabbage to wrap around the pasta later.
Salt the cabbage and set it aside for a few minutes.
When onions are halfway to be caramelized, add cabbage and stir well.
Now put the lid on and let cook. Don't forget to stir occasionally.
Add salt and pepper
When cabbage has softened completely you can add butter and saute
Once cabbage and onions have changed color to light brown it's time to taste and add more salt and pepper if needed
Put cooked pasta on the onions and cabbage and stir well
Now all the lovely sweet cabbage and onions have wrapped around the pasta and you can dig in. You can eat it as a main dish or serve as a side dish too
